Welcome to the Cloth Cat Blog!

Hello there! This is our first post on what we hope will be a busy and entertaining blog.

We have had an interesting 15 years, met some extraordinary people, had ups and downs, run marathons, begged, cried, laughed and danced. We’ve experienced some of the most breathtaking music, played by extraordinary people. It has been a pleasure to witness and be part of so many peoples lives, and share in their stories. 1012118_10152976107155010_2106165428_n

What we do here at Cloth Cat, is born out of a desire to make a real difference to the lives of budding musicians and creatives in Leeds. The road has been rocky, as all the best roads are! We have been a part of so many exciting things, but the best is yet to come.
In this blog we will share some of the successes and stories, the pitfalls that many musicians may face, offer advice and share our thoughts and experiences. The Cloth Cat team is made up of many, many people, from our passionate man of many talents; Project Co-ordinator, Mike Jolly!, to the committee, made up of a creative and dedicated bunch of local musicians, journalists, teachers, activists, community workers and fundraisers. We also have a loyal and hardworking group of volunteers and tutors that make Cloth Cat such a special and unique part of the Leeds music community.

The courses that we run are varied. From learning to sing, play the ukelele or guitar, to hand drumming, DJ-ing or learning how to produce bands and your own music. We have taught in places like Armley Prison and St Georges Crypt. We have worked with some of he most vulnerable people in our city and watched as they’ve been able to make real and positive changes and shared in their joy. guitar
We have also been lucky enough to put on some pretty spectacular gigs! Our dedicated music night ‘The Mos Eisley Cantina Open Mic‘ sessions run every Thursday (except the first Thursday of the month) at the Chemic Tavern in Woodhouse, Leeds. If you have never been.. these nights showcase some of the most unique local musicians that Leeds has to offer. We’ve had people like singer-songwriter Georgette Hilton, the wonderfully weird and talented institution that is Biscuithead and the Biscuit Badgers and Hurdy-Gurdy Hero, Rory Scammel.

We love what we do, and thanks to your donations, support and talent, we are able to keep doing it!

Thank you!! x
